Vineet Chaturvedi presents and defends her doctoral research
The aim of the dissertation is to investigate how machine learning, deep learning, and spatial models can analyse land-use change, built-up growth, and demographic shifts in urban areas in post-conflict countries, with a particular focus on Afghanistan and Iraq. Whereas monitoring and predicting urban dynamics may be relatively easy in data-rich countries, the main problem in post-conflict areas is, in addition to the uncertain situation, the availability and reliability of data. Therefore, one needs to rely on (the combination of) novel techniques to make realistic predictions and evaluations. The examination committee consisted of Prof. Katharina Anders, Prof Monica Kuffer (University of Twente, NL) and Prof. Walter Timo de Vries.
