Am Donnerstag, 22.01.2026 wird Prof. Heinz Stoewer einen Vortrag zum Thema “Future (Space) Systems will be different” halten.
Zeit: 17:00 - 18:00
Ort: Hörsaal 9377.EG.030, Lise-Meitner-Str. 9, 85521 Ottobrunn
Gastgeber: Prof. Marcello Romano (Lehrstuhl für Astrodynamik) und Prof. Alessandro Golkar (Lehrstuhl für Spacecraft Systems)
Abstract
Future Systems tend to become software defined Systems of Systems. This is due to complexity growth for use cases, technologies, and long-term maintenance/upgrade demands. As Space Systems expand deeper into commercial markets, interacting with terrestrial industries and service organizations, they will reflect these developments.
This presentation will identify general industrial system trends and relate these to Space System developments. The functionalities growth, evident in most modern products from mobile phones to tractors or Aerospace products, creates a heightened need for system architects/engineers to scope programs from the outset applying an end-to-end approach. To assure program success this must include, next to technology assessments and programmatic options, early life-cycle integration of software, hardware and service needs.
This presentation draws, amongst others, on the first international “Summit on Systems Workforces” in Delft, October 2024 (https://systems-workforce.eu), and the Call for Action endorsed in October 2025 at the Sydney International Astronautical Congress. Both meetings and resolutions point to the scarcity of multi-disciplinary system competencies and the needs/opportunities for life-long developments for experts and leaders in the systems engineering and management fields.
