Research Triangle in the Metropolitan Region of Munich
The dynamic Metropolitan Region of Munich combines quality of living with scientific and economic strength like almost no other place in Europe. The city and its attractive surroundings in Upper Bavaria attract people from all over the world. It is home to numerous major international corporations and has developed an equally important, technology-driven startup scene in recent years. The Entrepreneurial University TUM as well as other universities and world-renowned research institutes complete a unique environment for top-level research in aerospace and geodesy.
The department has its headquarters in Ottobrunn. In cooperation with the local companies and research institutions, a new building with offices, laboratories, test halls, start-up center and student infrastructure is being built. Other locations are Garching (TUM research campus), Oberpfaffenhofen (DLR and research airport) and Munich (TUM main campus). In this triangle, the faculty benefits from cooperation with established industrial and research institutions in the Munich metropolitan region. In this way, the competencies in the Munich metropolitan area are condensed in an unprecedented way.
The new department exploits the locational advantages in this triangle and creates an unrivaled competence alliance. Strategic alliances exist with:
Industrieanlagen-Betriebsgesellschaft mbH (IABG), Airbus, Bauhaus Luftfahrt, Munich Aerospace, Ludwig Bölkow Campus GmbH (all Taufkirchen/Ottobrunn), Universität der Bundeswehr (Neubiberg), Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR), OHB System AG (all Oberpfaffenhofen), MTU Aero Engines AG (Munich), Startups and high-tech supply industries in the Munich, Augsburg and Ingolstadt area
Further synergies are achieved within the university with the Munich School of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MSRM), the Munich Center for Technology in Society (MCTS) and other TUM Schools/Faculties.
