Prof de Vries visits Tanjung Banon in Rempang, Indonesia with Indonesian Minister of Transmigration - 25 Sept 2025

Following a joint meeting with the Indonesian Minister of Transmigration Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara and Professors Handayani and Rudiarto of Diponegoro University (UNDIP) in Semarang, Indonesia on 23 September, Prof. de Vries was invited by the Minister to join his visit to one of the pilot transmigration and rural development areas, in the municipality of Tanjung Banon on the island of Rempang, which is part of the Batam area in the province of Riau Islands.

During the visit, the plans for integrated rural development and transformation were conveyed, and the progress of the development was discussed and observed. One of the activities also included the issuance of ownership certificates to the new land and house owners of the transmigration area. The Chair of Land Management is working with UNDIP to advise the Ministry of Transmigration on sustainable village transformation in several pilot transmigration areas of Indonesia, and support the new transmigration and rural transformation policy of the Indonesian government.
