SPHERE is the Space Schools Exploration and Research Mission. It offers an innovative interdisciplinary and inclusive approach to education, equipping students with cutting-edge tools and involving them in contemporary research opportunities. They will learn curriculum content while embarking on an analog mission. For a few weeks, they will mimic the challenges of astronauts in foreign worlds in their schools. They will collaborate with schools and researchers across borders in a genuine research journey.
SPHERE will empower educators through an integrated professional development program combining face-to-face and online sessions and support material in a Moodle-like platform. Students will create analog mission simulations, supported by AI-assisted content, which will enhance their learning experience, while at the same time ensuring differentiation and personalisation opportunities. They will also have the opportunity to participate and collaborate in real analog missions.
As part of the SPHERE project, a physical and digital toolkit of experiments should be developed, along with tutorials and guidelines for the creation of simulations and for supporting the participation of students in the analog missions. An online SPHERE learning journey for the professional development of educators. All the materials will be produced in open-access format. A cohort of educators ready to support their peers to embrace similar opportunities, and students prepared to embrace future careers in related fields, confident in their capabilities.
