Description
This topic field focuses on the development of sustainable fiber-reinforced composites and production processes. The group concentrates on resource-efficient lightweight construction solutions, the reduction of CO₂ emissions, and the improvement of recycling and circular economy concepts for composite materials.
Particular emphasis is placed on the use of natural fibers and biopolymers as environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional reinforcing fibers and matrices. Through life cycle assessments and innovative material concepts, environmental impacts are examined and minimized along the entire value chain.d.
Key Areas and Objectives
- Establish sustainability as a cross-cutting issue
- Replace conventional materials with bio-based fiber-matrix systems
- Develop recycling pathways for recyclable composites
- Conduct and interpret LCA
- Define more energy- and material-efficient processes
- Analysis and processing of bio-based fiber/matrix systems
- Process analysis and determination of key parameters for CFRP recyclates
- Developing expertise in life cycle assessment
- Establishing an internal “Green Composites” knowledge database
