The aim of the Processes and Production Systems Team is to enhance the fundamental understanding of a wide range of possible manufacturing methods to achieve a cost, time and resource optimized production of fiber reinforced plastics. To achieve this, a wide range of existing processes and production technologies are studied, in order to enhance such technologies and develop new systems.

RTM-Technology

RTM-technology is a relatively wide spread manufacturing method to produce parts made from CFRP. It is suitable for medium volume production. The research of our team focuses on optimization of the injection time for higher volume production and of the robustness of the entire process chain (from cutting the plies to the final product).

Thermoplastic Thermoforming of Fiber-Reinforced Plastics

Continuous fiber reinforced thermoforming is an automated, high volume manufacturing process. The research focus of the LCC is the improvement of the process to allow the robust manufacturing of more complex structures.

2.45 GHz Microwave Application

The 2.45 GHz microwave technology is able to heat components directly, without the use of a transmission medium. Through the direct energy transmission it is possible to achieve a faster and more energy efficient process for drying, curing, melting of binder etc.
