On 24 June 2026, the Geodetic Summer Colloquium took place at the Oskar von Miller Forum in Munich, once again bringing together professionals, researchers, and students for an afternoon of engaging presentations and lively exchange.

The event was jointly organized by DVW Bayern e.V. and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and offered insights into current topics in geodesy from both practice and research.

Dr. Tobias Engelmeier (VIDA) presented geodata-based approaches for the analysis and assessment of sites for renewable energy projects. Dipl.-Ing. Frank Pöhlmann (Cloud-Vermessung) showcased modern surveying and data processing methods using the example of the village renewal project in Muggendorf. TUM students (Serafina Schega, Thomas Rudig, Magdalena Vogl) shared insights from the 2026 geodetic excursion, highlighting diverse applications in the Tyrol and South Tyrol regions. Prof. Dr. Benjamin Busam (TUM) provided insights into current research on machine perception and understanding in 3D.

The presentations were followed by a panel discussion on
“Geodesy & Earth Observation in transition: Which skills are needed in practice and how is education evolving?”

The panel brought together perspectives from administration, academia, and early-career professionals, featuring Wolfgang Bauer (StMFH), Antonia Bieringer (ESA Graduate Trainee and TUM alumna), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christoph Holst (TUM), and BD Andreas Kubenka (Bavarian Center for Rural Development, BayLE). The discussion was moderated by Julia Geiger (DVW Bayern e.V.).

As part of the program, the new TUM Bachelor’s program Geodesy & Earth Observation (GEObs) was also introduced. The discussion highlighted the central role of future-oriented education as a bridge between academia and professional practice.

The colloquium once again demonstrated the broad scope, technological depth, and societal relevance of modern geodesy, as well as the importance of exchange between academia, industry, public institutions, and early-career researchers.
