UPLIFT Annual Group Meeting 2026
In June, Tilman Baus participated in the annual UPLIFT Group (https://www.asg.ed.tum.de/iapg/uplift/) Meeting in Bad Kötzting. Over three days, project members came together to present their recent progress, discuss future research plans, and exchange ideas across the consortium.
As a new member of the project, the meeting provided an excellent opportunity to get to know the other researchers and PhD students involved in UPLIFT. Tilman presented his planned research activities and gained valuable insights into the wide range of topics addressed within the project.
A particular highlight was the excursion to the Geodetic Observatory Wettzell. The visit included the control room of the Very Long Baseline Interferometry and explanations of their instruments in general, which contribute to the realization and maintenance of the global geodetic reference frame.
The meeting also featured an excursion to several geological sites in the Bayrischer Wald, including the Teufelswand, a quarry and the Donau marking the northern boundary of the Bayrischer Wald. At these locations group members provided insights into how to understand the geological UPLIFT processes that shaped the region. Although the weather during the field excursion was not always on our side (and neither, once was the university car), the trip was a highlight of the meeting.
Beyond the scientific programm, the meeting offered many opportunities for discussion in an informal setting. For Tilman, it marked a valuable introduction to the UPLIFT group and its research activities.
