Cooperation project for JEC by Composite United/ Fraunhofer IGCV and the LCC of TUM

We are back at the JEC. This time deliberately in cooperation.

The Chair of Carbon Composites at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) has developed and produced a series of seating furniture for the JEC24 trade fair in Paris in collaboration with the University of Art and Design Linz and the Fraunhofer Institute for Casting, Composite and Processing Technology IGCV. Over the past few months, this collaboration has resulted in 24 swinging chairs made from glass fiber reinforced PETG using a CEAD large-format 3D printer. The chairs were designed by the University of Art and Design Linz. Design and technology belong together and make new things possible

The chairs will be presented together with six tables as seating groups on the stand of Composite United hall 6 P24, a network that unites companies and research institutions in the field of composite materials. The tables have a special feature: The table legs were made in the shape of the Composite United logo by TUM and show the design freedom made possible via 3D printing. The table tops were produced by Fraunhofer IGCV using a wide range of current technologies.

This project is an example of the application of new technologies in product development and demonstrates the collaboration between different institutions in the field of research and development. It illustrates how practical and aesthetically pleasing solutions can be created by combining technical know-how and creative design.

For the LCC, 3D printing is a promising future for fiber composites. We are currently working on optimizing the process, simulation and design and on the application. From toolmaking to tool-free production to structural components.

The furniture exhibited at JEC24 is intended to demonstrate the capabilities and potential of the participating institutions in the field of materials science and 3D printing technologies. The project illustrates the progress made in the production of composite materials and offers insights into the future applications of these technologies in product design and manufacturing.

We look forward to presenting the chairs and tables at JEC24 and cordially invite you to try them out.
