Networks and Initiatives

The dynamic Metropolitan Region of Munich combines quality of living with scientific and economic strength like almost no other place in Europe. The city and its attractive surroundings in Upper Bavaria attract people from all over the world. It is home to numerous major international corporations and has developed an equally important, technology-driven startup scene in recent years. The Entrepreneurial University TUM as well as other universities and world-renowned research institutes complete a unique environment for top-level research in aerospace and geodesy.

The department has its headquarters in Ottobrunn. In cooperation with the local companies and research institutions, a new building with offices, laboratories, test halls, start-up center and student infrastructure was being built. Other locations are Munich (TUM main campus), Garching (TUM research campus), and Oberpfaffenhofen (DLR and research airport). In this triangle, the department benefits from cooperation with established industrial and research institutions in the metropolitan region. In this way, the competencies in the Munich area are condensed in an unprecedented way.
