The European Consortium for Advanced Training in Aerospace (ECATA) is an association of leading aerospace universities and the European aerospace industry. The consortium organizes an annual product management course (ECATA-ABI Course). The program is aimed at young, highly qualified engineers and young scientists in the aerospace industry. The course is held at two universities each year. The former course participants are members of the ECATA Alumni Association (ECALAS), a European network. ECALAS organizes seminars on current aerospace topics and forms a nucleus for future European projects in the aerospace industry.
The LTF is pleased to have the opportunity to host this year's ECATA-ABI at the Technical University of Munich.
More information about ECATA can be found here.
This year, we are again delighted that Dr. Claus Riegler, Head of Technology and Advance Engineering at MTU Aero Engines, will be giving a lecture at the LTF as a guest lecturer. If you have any questions, please contact us at vl-tet.ltf(at)ed.tum.de. The lecture will be held in English.

In March 2025, the TUM campuses in Munich, Garching, Weihenstephan and Straubing will open their doors to all prospective students who would like to find out more about a Bachelor's degree program at TUM. You can expect numerous offers to support you in your choice of studies. During campus tours, taster lectures, exhibitions, workshops and demonstrations or advice at information stands and in conversation with students and lecturers, you can get to know studying and campus life at TUM.
The Open Campus Day for the study programs Aerospace, Chemistry, Engineering Science, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics and Physics will take place on 28.03.2025 in Garching. To register for the Open Campus Day 2025 and get more information, click here.
The LTF will also be represented. There will be a tour of the chair at 4 pm.

On April 3, we welcomed 14 interested and motivated schoolgirls to the Chair of Turbomachinery and Flight Propulsion for Girls' Day. For a whole day, everything revolved around aircraft engines, turbomachinery, measurement technology and exciting technical experiments.
Together, we explored how an engine works and what is behind the term “lift”. Interactive experiments gave the girls a practical insight into our work at the Chair:
They visited one of our test benches, learned about our measurement technology and were able to use a small experimental setup to visualize the flow around blade profiles - including observing flow separation.
It was a day full of curiosity, questions, aha moments - and lots of fun.
We hope that we were able to awaken a little enthusiasm for technology and perhaps even inspire a few future experts in aircraft engines and turbomachinery!
The LOIFT event organized by the student council is taking place again this year.
When? tbd
Where? Mechanical engineering building, courtyards 0-3
Hiwi positions, scientific work and exciting research topics await you again this year at LOIFT. The chairs of the School of Engineering and Design from the departments of Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace will be presenting themselves at more than 35 exhibition stands in Courtyards 0 to 3. There will be something for everyone, whether you are interested in gears, virtual reality or special materials.
The LTF will also be represented with a stand, so come along and find out about our chair, our courses and current research projects. You will also have the opportunity to take part in a guided tour of the department.
Further information about LOIFT can be found here.
In cooperation with the DLR Institute of Test and Simulation for Gas Turbines in Augsburg, the seminar for aircraft engines and gas turbines is offered annually in the winter semester. No registration is required and participation is free of charge. The event takes place at the LTF.
The seminar program for the winter semester 25/26 can be downloaded here.
If you want to add the seminar dates to your calender, you dan do this via this link or open the dates in the browser via this link.
