As an integral part of research on new aviation systems, a laboratory for flying demonstrators and system test benches is operated at the Chair of Aircraft Design. The laboratory provides technical support for the UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles). This includes the integration, maintenance and modification of aircraft assemblies (focus on fiber composites), static load tests, EMC testing (electromagnetic compatibility), integration of electronic components and the entire system integration and preparation for ground and flight tests.

For the measurement of conducted emissions to identify potential EMC problems, suitable measuring instruments such as spectrum analyzers, function generators, oscilloscopes and line stabilization networks are available.

In addition, the laboratory is equipped with a CNC milling machine, which was purchased in 2018. This milling machine is specially designed for milling plastic material and thus enables the creation of mold sets for the construction of high performance UAVs. The travel of the milling machine is 2050 x 790 x 230 mm.
