Description
The course "Fundamentals of Aircraft Operations” covers a multi-disciplinary range of relevant topics in the field of aircraft operation with focus on commercial air transport. Starting with a review of the history of civil aviation, the course presents important players, operating processes and procedures, and boundary conditions of the air transport system and additionally portrays the future perspectives of new technologies and their potential impact on aircraft operation. The following topics are depicted: history of civil aviation, overview of the aircraft design process, aircraft operators, airports, air traffic control, commercial aircraft operation, environmental impact of aviation, electric aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles (military aircraft operation, aircraft maintenance).
Prerequisites
Fundamentals of Aeronautical Engineering (recommended), Aircraft Design (recommended)
Examination
The examination of this course is conducted in written form. This is to verify that students are able to understand problems in the field of the course contents without using any aid (exception: non-programmable calculator) and within a limited amount of time. They shall demonstrate their capabilities in finding ways to solve these problems. The written exam covers the entire lecture material. Students are required to answer both multiple-choice questions and questions with freely formulated answers. In addition, short calculation tasks have to be accomplished
