On 10 October 2025, alumni, students, and staff of the international Master of Science in Cartography gathered in Munich to celebrate the program’s 15th anniversary. The event brought together nearly 150 participants from across all intakes, creating a vibrant mix of familiar faces and new connections.
The reunion offered a wonderful opportunity to reconnect, reflect on shared experiences, and celebrate the program’s journey over the past 15 years. The atmosphere throughout the day was warm, joyful, and relaxed — more like meeting up with old friends than a formal gathering.
From spontaneous conversations to shared stories and laughter, the event reminded everyone of the strong bonds that have formed through the Master.
The anniversary celebration featured a variety of engaging activities and contributions:
- An alumni map with shared memories and “fun facts” that brought lots of laughter
- Inspiring alumni stories — from career paths to personal milestones
- Connecting generations of students and graduates, from earlier intake to the most recent
- A panel discussion on perspectives on cartography featuring diverse voices from academia, industry, and public service
- And of course — plenty of food, drinks, and informal conversations that continued late into the evening
Beyond the celebration, the reunion also offered space for reflection. A few takeaways stood out:
- The strength of the alumni network: Staying connected continues to enrich both professional and personal lives.
- The global nature of cartography: Alumni are contributing to projects and research around the world.
- The importance of community: Collaboration, curiosity, and support are lasting values of the program.
- You can achieve anything: Alumni stories showed that with passion, creativity, and the right foundation, everything is possible.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined — we look forward to many more shared moments and continued inspiration in the years ahead!
